Course Description: Gives lifeguard candidates (minimum age=15 years of age) the skills and knowledge to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. This course contains activities to prepare candidates to recognize and respond to emergencies both in the water and on the surrounding deck.
Course Length: 32 hours
Prerequisites: Students will be required to pass a physical endurance test at the start of the class. The perquisite swim will consist of a three hundred yard continuous swim. Students are required to swim 100 yards front crawl, 100 yards breaststroke, and 100 yards either front crawl or breast stroke. Students are required to swim 25 yards front crawl or breast stroke, surface dive 7-9 feet, retrieve a 10 lb. object, and swim back to the starting point with both hands on the 10 lb. object with their face out of the water, place object on deck and exit pool without the use of stairs/ladder within a 100 seconds.
Students are required to wear a swimsuit and bring a towel, sunscreen, and a change of clothes to each class. Students will get a one hour lunch break. Students are encouraged to bring snacks and drinks to have throughout the day. Students will be provided with an ARC Lifeguard Training course book, CPR mask, and certification cards upon passing the course.
